There are two basic environmental mistakes when it comes to the ancillary issue of pest control. One is the use of a variety of poisons in the form of dry bait packages or spraying. This requires the spreading of pest-killing potions around the office which are an obvious mistakes when it comes to a Greener office or building. Spraying throughout a building to kill infestations is even worse. The fact that the poison is spread in hard-to-reach areas or in the absence of workers or students is only moderate accommodation for health and safety. There is ample science that shows that killing pests with poisons has residual affects on humans as well.
Some changes in office programming can help. One of which is not allowing food to set out throughout the office. Central eating areas allow for better clean up and waste removal. Do not allow food to remain overnight. A policy of no food overnight in the office that is not sealed and put away is not a hard policy for any office staff. If there is no food available, the pest issue may not disappear, but it will be minimized. The post-infestation processes of poison packages and sprays could only be a last ditch effort to treat an out-of-control situation.
The better solutions mark a return to basic solutions that have little or no adverse affects on people, pets, and the environment.
- Diatomaceous earth is microscopically small but sharp dirt that irritates and dehydrates insects.
- Boric acid in powder form can be poured into cracks and crevices to control pests.
- Orange Guard is another brand name product that leads the charge of environmentally-friendly insect killers.
- You will find several variations of organic insecticides, and traps that use pheromones and scents to lure pests to their death.
From a practical side, sealing up the entry points, elimination of wet areas, and concern for the source of any pests can reduce insects and rodents. No one wants pest in the office, and it is true that disease can be spread by insects and mice. The fact that you cannot see pests does not mean that they are not in your building. Habitat is part of the pest control problem. The bugs or rodents that you can see generally mean that many others are close by. The proactive approach is to remove the access and habitat first, and then create an unfriendly office to vermin.
Take some time to study on pest and you will find that cyan pepper can be discretely spread to discourage ants. Ant trails must be cleaned away, and if you are interested in placing bait traps, do it close to the source to get the colony and nests.
