It's pretty strange to step off into something new.  Up to this point in time, there was no official Green Consulting program except what might arise from a college education in environmental concerns.  Of course, there are the industrial engineers types who have mastered a segment of the environmental puzzle such as solar panels, indoor air quality, Green building construction, lighting systems, furniture and design, and even carbon emissions.  Frankly, I feel that we are allies in this massive, worldwide challenge.

The Green Consultant™ is an idea whose time has come.  In the midst of a lot of diversity, confusion, and a measure of environmental misinformation; the industry seems to cry out for a standard to be raised and a bar to be set.  It might seem that this would come from some government agency, but that is more often the source of expectations and demands without implementation required to empower the businesses outside of D.C. or the statehouse.

As we approach the first Green Consultant training in Chicago, IL; I feel a lot of pressure to "Get it Right, the First Time."  Long days and volumes of information must be reduced down to organized thought and logical applications.  It is not enough to bewail our plight and beat on our chest for the wrong done b y mankind.  It is time to step up to the plate an make something happen.  And, for whatever reason, it is our program and my challenge to create a platform for others to use in order to reach thousands and millions of businesses with solutions that are honest, effective, and affordable.

I want this to be more than a great business for our students because the times demand more than profiteers to fill this vacuum.  Every student needs to have a sense of vision and purpose to sustain them as the launch out with solutions that will seem strange at first no matter how good they may be. 

As we seek to establish 250 Green Consultants in 2009, we will lay the foundation of a great and pervasive organization who real job is to serve their community, protect our resources, and preserve our future.  From a single starting point, this is daunting.  But, the response to our efforts has been absolute confirmation that we are at the right place, and at the right time in history.

I am excited for each of these students because they are being handed more than a great job that will bring them a tremendous income.  They are the vanguard and army of people who will begin to fill the vacuum that exists right now.  We, the public are heavily motivated and grossly ignorant of all that must be done to implement environmental improvements into our lives and businesses.  Two major groups exist across all groups.  The first are the poorly informed masses.  The second are the intensely educated engineers, scientists, and environmentalist.  Between these group, a chasm of vast proportions exist.  It is this chasm that the trained professionalism of a Green Consultant will be desperately needed.

To empower, enlighten, and advise the first group, we need a community-based person who can translate the volumes of information in spoonfuls of practical advice.  A process must be accomplished that will allow for variation according to need and ability but still provide a step-by-step methodology of achieving Green compliance.  This is the nature of a consultant that takes the knowledge not commonly or easily acquired by those in the daily grind, and coaches, challenges, and aids families and businesses to step into a brighter future.

I believe that the certified Green Consultants of the Green Business League are the answer to the questions we all face as we strain to see what a Green world will look like in the future.  It is you as a Green Aware person, that will be what we all will discover.
